Jan. 27 class

In this class we watched "STUFF" made by a group. (http://www.storyofstuff.com/index.php) I thought in the video there were some biases. They show what they want to show, means the fact of US. But I could receive the main idea what they intend to show. That is now-going consumeristic society is not "sustainable". It destroys the environment, and ecological system. We should always become critical.

Jan. 25 class

Rab couldn't come to this class...please take care!
In this class we talked about how to predict the future. What do we need when we want to predict? In our group, we think first we have to decide what future we want to know. The word "future" has so broad and ambiguous meaning, so we have to narrow down the meaning of the future. For example a country's future, a company's future...but I think finally we find ourselves looking at individuals.
Then we need various information. Wataru said that we can decide what kind of information we need by thinking of what we use when we make our day plan. I thought it is very useful.

Jan. 20 Class

In this class we talked about whether we will make our clone if we want a baby but no partner. I think I won't make my clone as my baby because if I make my Clone, how can I regard him or her as my baby? the baby can become both baby or Twin, and decision is at the mercy of the original. It is odd. We should not make a life when the position of new born baby is unclear.
Also there is some legal problem like Rab said. Even if the majority of people advocate the cloning in such situation, before practical use we need development of laws related to children.

Jan. 19 Tut

In this tutorial we were taught the way how to use Google Document effectively and then the concept of writing an essay.
We learned how to make comment on other participants' essay drafts. I found it is so useful that we can comment to others whenever we are in fron to a computer. I will make comments as many as possible. (But so far I am the laziest student...I'm so sorry and I do my best from now.)
Then, we watched a video on You Tube. It was a song made by many music parts played by many people around the world. Although all these parts first seem to have no connection, they can get together and make a bland-new song. I will try to do like that in my essay.

Jan. 18 class

In this class, we do practice PWT and feedback, and in feedback part I find it difficult to evaluate section mate's writing. However it is worth to do because section mates are also students like me, so they often have same writing problem with me, so they can find my problem easily. I'm going to ask some section mates to check and evaluate my essay when I write one. Then get together with Winter Project members. In our group we talked about what we do so far. Wataru said he haven't decided the position toward compulsory voting, so need more research. I have decided my position to my topic, Death Penalty, so I will search the sources which enhance my argument.

Jan. 15 class

In this class we talked about the variety of possibility of cloning and about having a baby. In the discussion of whether we should make the test which allows couples have a baby or not, I think it can be because now we already have the driver's license institution in order to avoid troubles like traffic accidents made by who cannot drive well. The concept of having-baby-test has a similar point that both are aimed to avoid troubles. For having-baby-test, troubles mean, for example, financial trouble, child abuse and so on.
Next we talked about to whom genetic information belong. I think the information belong not to parents but to children, who have the information in their body. So I think parents should not be allowed using the genetic information without children will, even if child already had dead. If we allows parents clone the dead child, surely there will be people who abuse the institution. If the child is poor, parents may kill him or her and clone a new, smarter baby.

Jan. 13 class

In this class we discussed the topic of cloning, especially soul. I heard many opinion about "what is soul?" and it was very interesting. One participant said that because he is a christian he thinks, believes that we all people were given souls from God. Then we think of Dolly, the cloned sheep. Does Dolly have a soul or not? Of course we cannot make a conclusion, but in my opinion all creatures have their own characteristics and originality, and it can be called as soul. This definition is not about so called "soul", but I think these characteristics themselves can be called as soul rather than thinking soul is the origin of characteristics.

Jan. 12 Tut

In this tutorial we made the group of the Winter Project according to topics we have. Also we learned about how to edit the homepage.
I joined to the Japanese Legal Problem group made by Wataru, chika and yuka. we made a group because our topics are all about the Japanese law like "Japanese government should...". Ganbaroune!

Reaction to Blade Runner and Jan.6 class

During the winter break, I watched "Blade Runner" as the homework related to our topic bioethics. frankly speaking, I don't like such kind of SF movie, but the topic was interesting and very controversial. In the movie there is the concept of replicant. The perfect replicant has further ability than human beings, and also it has emotion like us. About replicant, maybe there are many disputable topics. First of all, how can I call them? Can I call it a robot? Or a creature? In this blog, I unconsciously use the word "it" to point out the replicant. Is that all right?
